this song makes me wanna melt… even until now when i have already gone past just talking to him. How it brings back memories…

There you are again
I see you all the time
We haven’t really met yet,
But you know, I don’t mind
‘Cuz I think today’s the day
I’m gonna go right up and say to you
Would it be alright
If I called you up sometime?

There you go again
I let you get away
At least I’ve got more time
To think of what I might say (like)
“Couldn’t we be good” (or maybe)
“Don’t you think that we should find
Some quiet little place where we’d make love all day?”

Come and talk to me
What are you waiting for
‘Cuz I can see you passing every day and I’m always wanting more
Come and talk to me
What are you gonna do
‘Cuz I can’t seem to get the nerve to get off my own ass
And come and talk to you

You know I love the type
You look like you’ve been up all night
And yet somehow still look beautiful
You do it all at the same time
Whenever you walk by
You always look me in the eyes
And in that moment I know
the same thing’s on your mind

It always seems to be that I let the good things pass by
Because I let my fear stop me (but not this time)

Tak to Me – Keri Noble

And you’ll begin to wonder why you came…

Meanwhile, I still find it difficult sometimes to distinguish whether one is being a friend or not. I mean, who among those people in my circle really considers me as a friend rather than lets, say, just a co-worker, a boss, a neighbor, regular patron/customer, client, fan, gimmick buddy, team mate, etc… in ways they all have opened themselves up to me, shared their thoughts and hopes and dreams. I know, and I’m aware that people come and go, and they’re in our lives for different reasons and periods of time, but much as I try my best to stay detached, and keep in my mind that fact, I still always end up wondering, at times, where they are, what they’re up to me – are they okay? I hate to think they be in pain, are they hurting? I do not have much time to spare most of the time, so texting, calling, emailing and instant messaging has been an important part of my relationships. It’s where I make my presence known. It’s how I let them know that I am here for them.

And I wonder if they ever feel the same way. I could think of many reasons why my messages, calls, emails or IM’s aren’t returned. But I still believe that, there is always a way to stay in touch and be there, if one really wants to.

I wonder if they do (want to).

*******************

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
Lyrics
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

I Wanna Be Your Firewoman…

Posted in soundtrack on February 27, 2007 by supahnova

This song from the late 90s by Hungry Young Poets has been in my head for 3 days now. And in all instances, it is either the piano intro or the line I wanna give you love but all I have is rain that keeps playing in my mind. I loved HYP and their songs – fun free, poetically uninhibited. Some lyrics were kind of awkward twined wioth the music that a companies it but they’re good nevertheless. And this song called Firewoman was my favorite. Then and now. It’s mainly because I have wanted to be a firewoman for someone, and I guess at some point someone/s had wanted to be a firefighter for me as well. ;-) Read more »

What the Fuck is LADYLIKE??

Posted in soundtrack on February 18, 2007 by supahnova

Just one of the best songs i’ve heard recently…

I’m sorry about your girl
Little center of the universe
Axis turns the world
And you need a jet to get to her
Oh, the way she moves, attracts all kinds of focus
From all over the room
She smokes, not ladylike. She’s not ladylike

Mister, mister, big and tall
You take the world and spin it
You don’t fuck around at all, no
You’re in it, to win it
Then you can get the gold
And you go make some more
So you can win the girl
Cuz baby that’s who you’ve been working for

She’s big and she’s proud
And she knows what the world is about

Hey, what the fuck is ladylike
If ladies like to do what the fuck they like
Just like you, yeah. Just like you.
Look out man here comes another one

Well I’m so sorry about your wife
She’s up and off and running
Going on with her own life
Word to your mother
She’s stunning
And there’s a part of you
That’s just a little scared of her
Axis turns the world
And you need a jet to get to her

She’s great and she knows
How to wear the pants
And the rest of your clothes

What the fuck is ladylike
If ladies like to do what the fuck they like
Just like you, yeah. Just like you
Look out man here comes another one

On my knees or on all fours
From underneath
Hear me roar

What the fuck is ladylike
If ladies like to do what the fuck they like
Just like you, yeah. Just like you
Look out man here comes

Cover Me Pretty (My Dream Concept/Covers Album)

Posted in soundtrack on February 12, 2007 by supahnova

honestly, i don’t like the still ongoing trend of covers… especially when i find that the cover version doesn’t even come close to the greatness of the original. Make it acoustic? Bossa nova? Chillout? Some artists doesn’t seem to grasp the whole concept of making it their own when they cover a song. Some doesn’t even know what specific genre they’re trying to make a song into. For me, a great cover is one that gives the original a whole new treatment without taking away whatever quality made it (original) so great. That means a good arrangement, and a beautiful rendition, vocally. And an overall good performance of the song. Emotions, energy, presence and all.

The best cover album, or rather, concept album that i heard was Strange Little Girls by Tori Amos, where she completely rearranges obscure tracsk originally performed by men, specifically from artists/bands like Velvet Underground, Depeche Mode, Slayer, Eminem, Boomtown Rats, Neil Young, etc Here is oen great example of making something originally written by another artist, your own, get away with it and with flying colors at that. It was an emotional, eerie, trippy powerhouse. And i doubt if there is ever another artist who can surpass the greatness of this album.

Yet i still want to hear at most a couple more of these kind. There’s something really sensual about a woman singing a man’s song. Especially when done with a completely different take, if not a really inegnious twist. I have a friend who does a really cool cover of an otherwise overused song “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. She starts it really slow and a bit eerie, definitely bringing to mind images of passing by a deserted area lined with centuries old mansions. Then it becomes a bit fast and gritty like someone just cant wait to articulate whatever it is she has to say. Then finishes with an almost haunting flourish.

That’s exactly the kind of effect i’m talking about. I always believed that music si first and foremost a language of the soul, and therefore it should express and communicate something. One doesn’t just sing or play an instrument – each song speaks. And it doesn’t matter if it’s something written by another artist.

Here is a list of songs i would love to hear covered, in brilliant, kickass arrangements and performance by a hopefully able, creative and credible woman. Most are really popular, so there’s the challenge to give it a whole new appeal.

 1. every breath you take – the police

 2. crash (into me) – dave matthews band

 3. about a girl – nirvana

 4. with or without you – u2

 5. wicked games – chris isaak

 6. you’ve got to hide your love away – beatles

 7. last goodbye – jeff buckley

 8. wish you were here – pink floyd

 9. best i ever had – vertical horizon

 10. helter skelter – beatles

 11. patience – guns n roses

 12. my iron lung – radiohead

 13. walking after you – foo fighters

 14. have you ever really loved a woman – bryan adams

 15. rebel rebel – david bowie

i wonder who could do it. Well i have a person in midn but i’m not sure if she would. Sigh, if only i can sing really well ;-p

Mystery

Posted in soundtrack on June 9, 2006 by supahnova

i absolutely love this song.;-)

Each time you’d pull down the driveway,
i wasn’t sure when i would
see you again.
yours was a twisted blind-sided highway,
no matter which road you took then.
oh you set up your place in my thoughts,
moved in and made my thinking crowded.
now we’re out in the back with the barking dogs,
my heart the red sun your heart the moon clouded.
i could go crazy on a night like tonight
when summer’s beginning to give up her fight
and every thought’s a possibility and voices are heard
but nothing is seen.
why do you spend this time with me?
maybe an equal mystery.
so what is love then,
is it dictated or chosen?
does it sing like the hymns of 1000 years,
or is it just pop emotion.
and if it ever was here and it left,
does it mean it was never true?
and to exist it must elude,
is that why i think these things of you,?
but i could go crazy on a night like tonight
when summer’s beginning to give up her fight
and every thought’s a possibility
and voices are heard but nothing is seen.
why do you spend this time with me?
maybe an equal mystery oh
but you like the taste of danger,
it shines like sugar on your lips
and you like to stand in the line of fire,
just to show you can shoot straight from your hip
there must be a 1000 things you would die for,
i can hardly think of two.
but not everything is better spoken aloud,
not when i’m talking to you.
oh the pirate gets the ship and the girl tonight,
breaks a bottle to christen her.
basking in the exploits of her thief,
she’s a very good listener.
and maybe that’s all that we need
is to meet in the middle of impossibility,
standing at opposite poles,
equal partners in a mystery.
we’re standing at opposite poles..
equal partners in a mystery.
